Everyone seems to be mad at Robin Lord Taylor...

So there's been an interview with Robin Lord Taylor about his role on Gotham and a lot of people were very angry about his phrasing of the Penguin's perception of love:

http://www.nbcnewyork.com/on-air/as-seen-on/Robin-Lord-Taylor-Talks-_Gotham__New-York-410542755.html

Okay, I’m gonna say this first so everyone knows where I’m starting from: I love both Robin and Oswald as persons and to me Oswald’s love for Edward is genuine and real, but I’m also not gonna be all out furious about what Robin has said/has been saying about Oswald’s character in connection with love and relationships. I can very well understand why a lot of people are angry with the way Robin phrased his views and I certainly don’t want to discourage those people. Normally I also try to stay away from stuff like this; yes, also as a huge fan there’s just some stuff I’m not getting myself into because it simply doesn’t (maybe shouldn’t) concern me or anger me (wow, that sounds weird but I hope you get what I mean). But since Gotham, especially Oswald and Edward have become something very much important to me and I see people being angry about this, I just feel like giving out my view of the whole thing. Because I’m always trying to see everything in an objective way, even with stuff that enrages me or makes me happy, I’m always trying to see both sides and be fair about everything. You can take from this whatever you like, that’s just me thinking out loud and you’re very much welcome to talk to me about this whether agreeing or disagreeing. This is probably gonna be quite long so bear with me. Okay, let’s do this...

I watched the interview this morning after hearing all the turmoil about it and my initial reaction was: “Okay, yeah, I wouldn’t say it like he did but seriously: that’s what everyone’s going crazy about?” It’s important to note that I don’t always fully agree with what Robin has said (now and in the past). To me Oswald’s feelings for Edward are genuine, honest and come from a good intent. However, I can also see where Robin’s point of view is coming from and I can even agree with him on some of those aspects. And after all, it’s Robin’s character and his perception; he’s just as much an interpreter of the character as we are so he also has a very different understanding of Oswald.

Thinking about what has happened to Oswald it would be generally wrong to say that he isn’t a fucked up person, he doesn’t have a normal understanding about a lot of things (or at least not anymore). This is a man who has had everything and nothing; a man who saw both of his parents die in his arms; he has lost the only two people who have shown him love and for whom he felt the deepest kinds of emotions; Oswald has had people taken from him, and he has been betrayed, it’s not always easy for him to trust someone 100% or to invest in someone emotionally. In season 3 he is (after a long time) back on the top of his game after having his father taken from him, killing the murderer of his mother (again) and encountering Fish Mooney. He frees Edward from Arkham because they’ve grown very close over the past months and they obviously do care for each other to some degree.

Now, skipping forward to the episodes in which the statue of Gertrude gets destroyed, people are being bribed to vote for him while others try to overthrow him. The statue being destroyed might not be a big thing but to someone like Oswald it obviously means a lot, it hurts him, it reminds him of his mother; and at the same time he has to deal with a gang that tries to kill him and is led by someone knowing Oswald. Oswald is a man with a broken character, he gets upset and enraged by things most of us would find very strange or not so important; he is a man who deep inside is probably fighting big demons every day, a man who is desperate AND depressed to some degree. And in such a time there’s this one guy, Edward Nygma, the one guy who (apart from his parents) has ever shown genuine, honest interest and affection for Oswald and helped him simply because he wanted to. So of course Oswald holds on to that, he’s alone and broken and there’s this man who keeps encouraging him and who’s nice. In those sad moments of Oswald’s life there happens to be Edward and in those moments of deep, intense emotions and desperateness Oswald sees what Edward does for him and of course he doesn’t want to lose that. He’s never gotten that kind of love from anyone else, he’s always been alone most of his life especially in those desperate times.

So, (without trying to be mean or discouraging or anything like that) of course Oswald’s feelings are confused to some extent in that regard because he’s never been in such a state. This is both new and intensely difficult for him. Love is something very complex, problematic, rare and messed up for Oswald. His perceptions of such feelings have been shaped in a very fucked up way. I’m not saying he’s completely incapable of feeling love, but in such situations as described above, it wouldn’t be too wrong to say that his feelings are basically all over the place and going crazy and maybe not functioning in a way we’d consider “normal”.

Now, going from the fictional world to the real world. And mind you this is gonna be quite difficult because I couldn’t possibly say what Robin is really thinking, I don’t know him and none of us have any idea what’s actually going on with him or what he really wanted to say or what he could tell us about Oswald and upcoming stuff on the show.

First I just want to say that we should take into account that Robin is allowed to have his own interpretation of the character; art isn’t objective so everyone sees things differently and I’m pretty sure there are also some people who would agree with what Robin said in that interview. Maybe that really is Robin’s perception of the Penguin’s psyche, we don’t know. It’s an opinion (maybe a strangely formulated one but hey), it’s Robin’s opinion and we should know better than to discourage and ignore it. Sure, it might not be an opinion we agree with and it’s hard to hear it from Robin himself but we should still be able to accept it if it’s truly what Robin’s thinking.

Robin isn’t in an easy position here. He’s the main star of the show, a lot of people look up to him and pay very close attention to what he says. He’s an openly gay man who portrays a very famous comic book character who falls in love with another male iconic character. That’s some big stuff going on, we have all seen the comments on the whole Nygmobblepot relationship and Robin knows about those too. He wants to make this good, Oswald obviously means a lot to him and as a member of the LGBT+ community it’s probably safe to assume that Robin cares about that story-line for his character.

Robin has had personal experience with hate for the LGBT+ community and he’s been known to support gay rights openly. Now, Oswald is a broken, fucked up super villain and murderer, who kills the girlfriend of the guy he loves and that’s only one of the many bad things Oswald has done. The Penguin has done some horrible things and it’d be wrong to ignore that, Oswald isn’t/can’t always be the cute innocent bird we like him to be. As a gay man Robin would obviously want the people to not get a wrong picture of the gay community, it could very well be that he’s afraid of people getting encouraged in their homophobia so he’s somehow trying to make the best of it. And maybe that didn’t turn out the way he wanted it to. It can happen, we all make mistakes, Robin’s phrasing wasn’t the best and yes it isn’t very nice to listen to (especially as an Oswald fan and/or Nygmobblepot shipper). I’m honestly not thinking that it came from a place of homophobia (seriously, how could it?), maybe it’s simply difficult for Robin to explain what exactly he means, maybe he’s trying to make it right for everyone but doesn’t know how to  and thus ends up in situations like this one right now.

Okay, I’m somehow trying to wrap this up now. I’m not trying to discourage or disagree with those who are angry with Robin, in fact I very much understand that. Again, I myself don’t really agree with him, to me Oswald’s love is genuine and real. But I’m not gonna hate on Robin now, even if his words also upset me a little, because I know that I have my opinion and he has his and I know that I don’t have to be angry with him just because he happens to be the man who plays my favourite character. In that regard he’s also simply another man voicing his opinion of the character so I just do what I always do whenever I encounter someone who says something I don’t agree with (no matter who it is): I acknowledge the other view, still stick to my personal opinion and move on. Yes, personally I’d also say that maybe someone should call Robin out on his way of phrasing but I’m also saying that you should try to see both sides of the argument and not get too caught up and full mode furious about all of this.
I know I might have upset some people now and I would totally understand that. As I said in the beginning, you’re welcome to discuss the issue with me, this here is simply what I think about the whole affair. If you made it this far, thanks for reading. Feel free to comment, like, hate whatever, I don’t care. After all: we all have the possibility to voice our opinion.

Gotham "Blood Rush": Is everyone gonna go crazy?!

The effects of a recent incident begin to cause Barnes to go mad; Nygma is over his head in his relationship with Isabella; Carmine Falcone throws an engagement party for Lee and Mario.
I'm seriously asking myself why I even bother to come up with all these insane predictions, Gotham screws us over anyway every week. I guess it's a coping mechanism to bridge the time between new episodes and trying to make sense of things. But then: this is Gotham, we never know what will happen so let's see what they're trying to do to us tomorrow:

Let me just say that it's wonderful to see Jim back with the GCPD and Bullock. I missed the dynamic between the two and I do hope that we get to see some old-school Season 1/2 moments. However, I don't believe that Jim will have time to calmly ease into his old position again, something's going to come up and it's going to be something personal.

The focus of this episode however, is going to move away from Jim a bit because the Mad Hatter has been captured, but there's still his sister's blood and what it did to this guy:

(Source: tvfanatic.com)
I believe tomorrow we will see what truly has happened to Barnes, his powers are going to come out for real this time. And we also see him talking to the Mad Hatter in Arkham Asylum, there might be some sinister things going on between the two. Jervis looks very excited and interested about Barnes' transformation, seeing the connection to his sister in those new powers. Jervis will definitely try to fuel those strange feelings/thoughts within Barnes, who will try to deny them but eventually be unable to control them. I think that tomorrow we might finally get to know who Barnes has really become. if he is going to be Bane (still don't think so) or someone completely else? And the Mad Hatter certainly has his hands in their somewhere so I believe we will see more of Barnes' transformation in connection to Jervis.

(Source: tvfanatic.com)
Somewhere else in Gotham Lee is trying to live her new life. But in a city like Gotham, even an engagement can mean something horrible. The engagement party is most certainly not going to be 100% care-free. Lee still has some feelings for Jim (who also still loves her), Mario is part of the Falcone family (which says it all) and in the trailer we see a two old girlfriends getting together again: Lee and Barbara back together. Presumably Barbara is just there to troll Lee, teasing her about Jim and her past and new life. It's going to be interesting how the two women will interact after all this time. Mario and Jim also seem to crash once again. It's imaginable but daring to think that Jim will actually turn up at the engagement party. I'm already calling the awkwardness and the anger between Jim and Mario. Something bad is about to happen...

(Source: tvfanatic.com)
Let us come to our (well, certainly my) favourite topic when we talk about Gotham: what's up with Oswald and Edward? I was pretty much Oswald in the last episode: jealous, angry and trying very hard not to kill Isabella. But maybe she's soon going to disappear by herself because: did you fucking see that real-looking Kristen?! Once again I'm calling it: something is very fishy and weird about that Clone-Kristen and I think tomorrow we're going to see why. Did you see her devilish, sneaky look in the trailer when she picked up those glasses? And guess who's glasses those are?! Could be Edward's, but I'm almost 100% sure those are Kristen's which Edward kept after her death. And who do we see in the mirror and shitting our pants just like Edward: suddenly old Kristen is back!

(Source: tvfanatic.com)
I'm telling you, that Clone-Kristen is about to do some very weird and fucked up shit. Perhaps she is so much into Edward and especially his dark side that she finds out about the original Kristen and dresses up as her in order to surprise Edward and do something (I have no idea what) to him. Edward doesn't seem too thrilled by that whole scenario. Sure, we see him kiss that Kristen in the trailer, but his hand is on her throat and he obviously seems very unsettled by all this.

(Source: tumblr.com)
Maybe Clone-Kristen is stepping up her game in seducing and manipulating Edward, which would play even more into the theory that she's some sort of honey-trap send my Butch or I don't know who. If we're are lucky Edward is perhaps slowly realising that this Clone-Kristen isn't good for him and that there's actually a certain someone who truly loves him.

(Source: tvfanatic.com)
And all the Nygmobblepot people (me included) are like: AHHHHH!!!! I don't think they will make the feelings between these two mutual (yet) but maybe there's going to be another nice moment between Oswald and Edward. Maybe Edward is in doubt over his relationship with Clone-Kristen (because she starts to get creepy) and Oswald comforts him, maybe even seeing his chance of coming back into the game. With a bit of luck and hope we might even see Edward starting to discover his own feelings for Oswald and perhaps he'll be in some kind of confusion over his feelings for both those people. I believe there's an emotional roller-coaster waiting for Edward and maybe the Nygmobblepot-ship is still going to happen. (Hopefully) Let's just hope our dear little Oswald doesn't keep looking like this for much longer:

(Source: tvfanatic.com)
I think the next episode might truly be about going crazy, there are some interesting and creepy surprises waiting for us tomorrow. Let's hope Gotham won't kill our souls. Again. (Okay, they always do that)

Gotham S03E07: Hallucionations and Heartbreak

Well, this week's episode of Gotham has certainly been a trip down the rabbit hole. Not just for Jim Gordon. We saw some crazy fantasies, some nice character moments, some mysteriousness and some heartbreak. It certainly is never easy for our citizens of Gotham, it's like they can never have one quiet day.

(Source: denofgeek.com)
Let's immediately start with our dear sweet Oswald Cobblepot, mayor of Gotham and still trying to tell Edward his feelings for him. Life is not being easy on Oswald, not at all and by now I really feel sorry for the little Penguin. He is mayor and is in love and yet he's one of the most unluckiest characters at the moment, because in comes Edward with the great news of having fallen in love. And you could immediately see and feel Oswald's heart break. Respect to Robin Lord Taylor who, once again, shows what a fantastic actor he is. The moments of jealousy while still trying to keep up the facade of a happy friend, came out very nicely, so it felt both kinda funny and sad to see Oswald being upset about Clone-Kristen. And as expected he didn't leave that woman alone and right away tried to get her away from Edward, but (also as expected) this didn't work out. For now it seems like Edward takes this Clone-Kristen for granted and does have feelings for her without realising what he does to Oswald. It's really sad to see that even now Oswald still can't really escape this unfair and cruel life he's always had and I'm pretty sure that this will take a very dark turn very soon...

(Source: Facebook)
Our dear old friend Jim Gordon has to fight some demons of his own. Almost literally. A hallucination story for a character is nothing new but I must say that they executed this quite nicely with the different scenarios. I was okay with Barbara in this episode, she was there and had a purpose and wasn't too annoying. It was also nice to see some longer, "personal" interaction between her and Jim. It was interesting to see what characters would appear in what way. Bruce was there and he was being quite creepy and very mysterious; unusual to see Bruce like this but I liked it. I also appreciate that they had Penguin in Jim's hallucination (in some very cool soldier outfits) because this shows the connection these two character have shared and still have. And then we see what Jim truly desires: a happy family life with Lee. I can't say I wasn't really surprised to see that, but it was nice to see a slightly more different side of Jim. Not the dark, serious and brooding fighter of justice, but simply a man who's happy. Why don't we get more moments like this? Adds some nice details to Jim's character. Nice move to actually have Lee's fiance be the one who saves Jim. It's very interesting to see how these two interact. In the end Jim is saved and Tetch actually captured, but this will most likely not be the end of it. And Jim joins the GCPD again. Finally! I was waiting for this for quite some time and I'm glad he's back in his proper place where we want him to be. That'll also gives us some more interaction between Jim and Bullock again which I missed a lot.

Who's There? - Gotham Season 3 Episode 7
(Source: tvfanatic.com)
But hang on! Wasn't there something between Barnes and Tetch? Yes, Barnes is still about to go crazy and now the Mad Hatter knows about it. There's definitely going to be some little story between these two characters and I think we will soon get to see what becomes of Barnes when the blood finally unleashes its entire power. I'm still wondering what kind of villain or whatever Barnes is going to be, it promises to be quite interesting, especially with the Mad Hatter knowing about this all now.

(Source: seat42f.com)
We also got to see Bruce and Selina again this week! Not much but it was really nice to see that they are trying to develop their relationship, with both of them admitting that they find this whole thing weird. It's nice to see that the two of them finally seem to agree with each other more and more and not get angry at each other every other moment or so. That cooking and baking was basically also a very nice touch of an already very mature Bruce trying to care about those he likes. Alfred also had some nice lines, being the concerned father figure here. I do hope we get to see more of these characters again in the next episodes.

Gotham Season 3
(Source: fabnewz.com)
The two last things kind of go together: Jim's father and the Court of Owls. In his trip down the rabbit hole, Jim is confronted with his dead father and they have a very nice and interesting conversation, showing us who Jim wants to be and getting our focus on a mysterious ring on the hand of the father. Now, at the dinner Oswald attends, he meets the woman we already know from the Court of Owls. Here is where it gets interesting because we are told that they have basically been watching Oswald for a longer time already! So Penguin is under the watchful eye of the Court which could mean they already are trying to interfere with his affairs in some way or another. Maybe they are the ones who sent Clone-Kristen? It certainly is possible, it wouldn't be the first time they come of with a big, mysterious plan. At the end of the episode we're getting even more proof for this as we see the Court of Owls lady talking to a new, still kept in the dark figure. And what was that man wearing? The exact same ring that Jim's father had! First thought of course would be that Jim's dad actually runs the Court and thus Gotham. Maybe he faked his own death and stays away from his son. It could also be someone connected to Jim's father who received the ring from him. We don't know! And thus Gotham has created another story we so desperately want to see explained.

(Source: Facebook)
This has certainly been one roller coaster episode once again and the trailer for the next one already has me going crazy. I will write another predictions-post about the next episode in a few days, analysing the trailer and telling you what I think might happen. I'm also planning on writing about the whole Oswald x Edward homophobia affair so stay tuned for that. I'm just trying to bridge the time until the next episode and I'm getting more and more worried and excited every day!

Gotham "The Red Queen": What the hell is going to happen to everyone?!

When Jim Gordon makes contact with a substance in the hand of Mad Hatter, he's led on a psychedelic trip in which he must face his past, present and future; Penguin has a difficult time with Nygma's new relationship.
Well, the new episode of Gotham is just around the corner and I'm still not over the emotional roller coaster of the last one. Oswald admitted his feelings for Edward but couldn't tell him, Edward met a Clone-Kristen and seems very smitten, Jim is still under the watchful eye of the Mad Hatter and the GCPD, Barnes' anger issues are coming through and we haven't seen Bruce in a while; basically everything is going down the rabbit-hole, as they say. The trailer for the seventh episode of this season certainly looks like it's going to get even crazier than we thought.

The Mad Hatter can't seem to let go of our dear Jim Gordon and this time it gets even more psychological and delusional as before. Obviously the Mad Hatter poisons Jim somehow and there we have that classic Mad Hatter mo: Jim goes down the rabbit hole and sees and hears things he can't explain. Barbara is there and she seems to be like his "guide" in this strange fantasy world and takes him to all the weird places. In the featurette of the upcoming episode it's explained that Jim will be taken to all the moments and places of his recent life about which he somehow feels bad, guilty or emotional. We can see Lee in there in some old school outfit and there might also be the child she lost. There's also Jim in an alleyway with a fancy car in the background which could be the alleyway where Bruce's parents died, implying that he still feels guilty that he couldn't fulfil his promise to Bruce. There might also be some very angry but also emotional moments between him and Barbara, after all they have quite some history together. It'll be interesting to see what Jim will actually see, I just get the feeling that whatever is going to happen to him: it will change him in some way or another, maybe driving him even more insane.

But this time the Mad Hatter doesn't seem to only focus on Jim. We see a shocked Oswald Cobblepot hold at gunpoint by the Mad Hatter telling him to die. This actually brings me directly to this time's predictions and thoughts about our dear Oswald x Edward relationship. You might wonder how those go together, well look at the name of the episode: "Red Queen". The literature geeks know very well that the Red Queen is a character from Lewis Carol's "Through the Looking-Glas", so another figure of  "Alice in Wonderland" and we all know how big the Mad Hatter is about that kind of stuff. He even says "Red Queen" in the trailer and guess when he says it: exactly when we see Edward kiss Clone-Kristen! Remember my last blog entry here, where I said that maybe Clone-Kristen was send by someone to cause problems? What if the Mad Hatter was that person? The Red Queen isn't the nicest of persons in "Through the Looking-Class" and is mostly seen as some form of antagonist for Alice. While she does have her nice moments in the story and does give advice from time to time, she can also be characterised as
...overbearing, meticulously obsessive about manners, and civil in a self-righteous and supercilious way. [...] Her assertions are often arbitrary recitations of strict behavioral advice [...] She fits into the framework of Alice’s dream as representative arbitrary authority, serving as a caricature of an overbearing governess figure at odds with her young charges.
(Source: http://www.sparknotes.com/lit/through-the-looking-glass/canalysis.html)
I'm still sticking to the theory that Clone-Kristen is a very fishy figure. She's just too perfect of a character (looking like Ed's late girlfriend, she likes riddles) and she comes in exactly at a time when everything seems to go perfectly for Oswald and Edward. And it would also tie in with that scene we saw of Oswald and the Mad Hatter. The only question would be: why is the Mad Hatter suddenly going for Oswald? Up to this point it has all been about Jim Gordon and no one else. Perhaps the Mad Hatter is playing an even bigger game than we expected or somehow Oswald (and Edward) crossed his path/plan without realising it. It'll be fascinating to see as to how all these characters now come together.

Apropos Oswald and Edward: back to our favourite TV couple! There have been kind of good news for all us shippers in the form of a new Gotham featurette video titled "Robin Lord Taylor & Cory Michael Smith Ship Oswald & Nygma". Yes, yes that actually happened! And you can really tell that those two actors love their characters and playing with what they're given and it's just wonderful to see that even the actors are sort of on our side.

After watching this video I also had to admit that I stand corrected about the whole "Oswald sends Clone-Kristen as a 'present'" thing because just look at our dear little Oswald. He acts so jealous when he hears about that new woman and I don't know if I find this cute or sad. Probably both. I mean just look at him asking about Edward's date:

So for now the whole Edward x Clone-Kristen seems to be a thing whether we like it or not. (Does anyone like this?!) We still can't be sure if Edward seems to be truly in love with this woman but for now it looks like it and just as Oswald we sit there with seething jealous rage while we just want to kill that woman and make Edward ours. (This writing takes a strange turn, I know) It is still very hard to say what will happen and if they might give us the relationship we so desperately have been teased with for more than one season. I have the fear that Edward might not reply Oswald's feelings because he simply doesn't feel that way, but I also have that strange hope that the two will be together for some time or at least kiss or something. However, in one point I seem to be on the right track: Oswald will do something to Clone-Kristen in order to win Edward. We see him talking to Clone-Kristen so she will lose interest in Edward. I'm pretty sure something as easy as this won't work just like that, so maybe Oswald will decide to go even further.

Over the past week there have been even more discussions about Oswald's and Edward's relationship and the Penguin's sexuality. Many people are happy but just as many are upset and angry. And some of them are just homophobe arseholes but that's not the side we have to look at. I've read a lot of comments and such over the past days addressing this topic and I was happy and angry within seconds. There are a lot of thoughts on my mind about all the uproar comments and discussions and in the next days I will write another entry talking about those.

But for now let us address the other story line that is often a bit pushed in the back, but we shouldn't forget about good old Barnes who still has to fight with his anger issues:

So the question is: what the hell is happening to Barnes? It has already been a while since he has been infected by Alice's blood and in the last episode we already got so see some of the effects when he got so angry he damaged a metal chair. It is still unclear who or what Barnes is going to become, there have been quite a few theories. Some people believe that he's going to become Bane because of the name similarity and the anger power he got. But I honestly don't think he's going to become Bane because of multiple reasons: Barnes is a little too old to become a future Batman enemy; he's not Mexican and they already introduced the actual poison that gives original Bane his powers, so why would they come up with a different story now? Some people also think that he's going to be Solomon Grundy but I doubt that as well, since the makers of Gotham already said that Solomon Grundy is going to be a character we haven't seen yet. Maybe Barnes is going to be a completely new character purely created for this show, or this is going to be a very old school, more unknown Batman villain. I guess we'll have to wait and see.

As a more happier last note: Bruce is back! And Selina as well! So after their confusing, emotional kiss encounter the last time, we'll see how their relationship is going to develop from now on. I hope that we get to see more of future-playboy Bruce and also more of his detective side. I loved that moment two episodes ago when he deduced that Jim was seeing Valery Vale because he saw the lipstick on Jim's mug. Damn that was badass! So I hope we get to see more of that Batman development while observing Bruce's and Selina's relationship. Maybe we will also see both of them in Jim's hallucinations so we'll see how those two play into that story line.

Gotham's Season 3 Episode 7 is on its way and I'm honestly unsure as to what to expect. Sure, I'm making predictions and I have hopes and fears but Gotham is such a clever and sneaky show, you'll never know what they will do and that still angers and excites me every week.

Gotham's Oswald x Edward S03E6: What the hell are you doing to me?!

First, let's quickly clear up something: if you think I'm one of those people who fight the idea of Penguin and Riddler being together, then please stay! If you yourself are one of those people who can't bear the aforementioned idea, well then: bye! Who's been following me on Google+ and Instagram already knows very well how much I dig the bromance between Oswald and Edward, so that I end up writing about it isn't really that big of a surprise. Now, where are we with this special friendship so far?

When Edward's true side is born, he starts to admire Oswald, the crime-king of Gotham. When the Penguin is hurt in body and spirit, Edward takes him in and helps him to become his old self again. Oswald lands in Arkham and when he is released seems cured, so he first goes to his old friend to show him so. Obviously Edward is a little irritated by the new Oswald and the two part ways for some time. Eventually it's Edward's time to go to Arkham and guess who always comes to visit and eventually pick him up when he is released? Oswald is working o becoming the mayor of Gotham and of course he wants his old friend at his side. together they work hard of the Penguin's plan, Edward using his mind and schemes to help Oswald. Edward manages to show Oswald that he can win without criminal actions through the power of love. Shocked and touched, Oswald becomes mayor and makes Edward his chief of staff. In a turn of events one of Oswald's most trusted henchmen betrays him, but Edward saw this coming. He saves his friend, nearly getting strangled to death in the process. The two young men find themselves in the Penguin's house, Oswald is still in shock but Edward insists that he would do anything for him. For a few seconds there's this undescribable look between them, Oswald moves closer and the two embrace.

This is where we were last week and I believe most of us were shocked and surprised in some form or another. is Gotham really ging there? Making these two iconic characters fall in love with each other? well, this week we got the answer: sort of.
But one thing is for sure: Oswald loves Edward. he remembers his mother telling him to cease the chance for true love when you see it and so Oswald eventually decides to confess his feeling to Edward.
You won't believe how excited and thrilled I became when I heard him say that. I literally had to stop the video in that moment to get up and scream. Like I said, I've been digging this relationship hardcore, so of course I'm happy about a turn like this. They've been developing this relationship in a very nice and lovely way and you're just happy as soon as you see those two on screen. I do honestly get why some people oppose the idea of the two of them being together. They're classic, iconic characters who in the comics were never gay or that close; I understand this. (However, if you don't like the idea because you're a homophobe arse, then fuck off!) And I'm usually someone who prefers the classic, old-school version as well, but with Gotham it's different. They have made some changes, but executed (most of) them very well so I can get along with them. The relationship of Oswald and Edward has gone down such a wonderful path so far, so I couldn't be any happier. This week's episode though got me thinking; again.

I love that Gotham is not afraid to do this "Oswald loves Edward"-thing, I admire this. However, my fear/thought is that they still won't let the two be together (or at least not soon). Oswald tries to tell Edward what he feels but can't go through with it the first time. Hey, I'm fine with that; many of us know these kind of moments, it isn't that easy. Then we have the dinner to which Oswald invited Edward in order to finally confess his feelings. We cut to Edward buying a bottle of wine (probably for Oswald) where he encounters a young woman. Three guesses on who this woman resembles: Kristen Kringle! Edward's former big love who he had killed. Right away Edward is intrigued and even seems smitten once more; Oswald seems forgotten.
Okay: why?! Come on, people! I'm ready for the whole "I love you, Edward." and then they come up with this at the end of the episode. Tension? New love interest? Reason of anger for Oswald? Jealousy? Why did they come up with a Clone-Kristen right now?! What's going to happen?!
Well, let me tell you all the thoughts and theories I already have on this:

1. This Clone-Kristen has some connection to Oswald. Maybe he found someone who looks like her in order to make Edward happy. That's his form of saying "I love you". Also he maybe fears that Edward won't love him back so instead Oswald gives Edward something that he loves. Question however is: why the whole dinner thing then? Symbolism?

2. Clone-Kristen was send by someone else (maybe Butch or someone completely else) and is either really close to Kristen in looks or was created to resemble her in order to draw Edward in and away from Oswald. Question: who sent Clone-Kristen and why?

3. Clone-Kristen is just a simple, not-special person who happens to look like Edward's late girlfriend. Total randomness. But then the big question here would simply be: why? Why would they randomly bring in a Clone-Kristen now?
3.a Simply for (romantic) tension. Edward is going to have to choose between Oswald and Clone-Kristen.
3.b To awake Oswald's rage once more and give Edward a reason to go against Penguin. Oswald might get very upset and do something horrible to Clone-Kristen so he can have Edward. But obviously Edward wouldn't be very happy about something like this and eventually betray Oswald.
3.c So Oswald and Edward simply can't end up together. This is the worst case scenario because this would put the writers of Gotham in a bad light. Keyword: queerbaiting. Giving us the cute little Edwald/Osward moments for those who ship it but eventually putting their romantic interests somewhere else. "Luckily", in this case, this would only apply to Edward.

4. Some very clever and weird story lies behind all this. Something so unthinkable is going to happen and I just don't know what it could be . Big question here: what is it?!

Side Note: I'm already calling bullshit on the Clone-Kristen anyway. Something is fishy about her, she just seems too perfect: she resembles Kristen but isn't her, isn't afraid of Edward and seems to like riddles. Very suspicious.

Personally, I can't really say what I believe will happen. I'm honestly surprised already that they went so far as to say that Oswald loves Edward. Sadly, I'm somehow led to believe that they won't end up together, as much as I would love to see that happen. I don't know, call it a gut feeling. I also think that the harmonious relationship between Oswald and Edward is not going to last. At some point, maybe towards the end of the season, Edward is going to betray Oswald. He's the Riddler after all, he always has a bigger picture in his mind. I do believe he feels something for Oswald as well but also uses those feelings to his advantage. When Oswald was close to telling him "I love you" there was this look in Edward's eyes like he already knew. I have seriously no idea what's going to happen; but then this only shows what a brilliant show Gotham is. All I can say is that I'm very excited for next week's episode. I want to see more of Oswald and Edward, no matter how or what. I guess we'll have to wait and see.

Jessica Jones x Kilgrave - Jessigrave/Kiljones

(Source: http://media.comicbook.com/2015/11/jessica-jones-159074.jpg)
Okay, I’m going to say this once and once only.
Anyone who has a problem with me shipping Jessica and Kilgrave and isn’t able to tolerate that can unfollow me right now!
You know why?
Because I don’t fucking excuse Kilgrave’s actions! I’m fully aware of what he did and I wouldn’t anyone like this to be in relationship with myself or anyone. I’m interested in the relationship, the dynamics the two of them have. I’m not saying “Abuse and rape is romantic.”, I’m saying “I’d like to explore the interesting dynamic between Jessica and Kilgrave”
Everyone who ships those two is fully aware of Kilgrave’s actions, no one tries to justify what he did! When we imagine Kilgrave and Jessica in a relationship, it’s either in an AU version in which he’s different or tries to be a different/better person or in a version where he finally gets punishment and sees what he did wrong. We’re not supporting rape and abuse, we’re simply exploring this very fascinating connection/dynamic Jessica and Kilgrave have which has this kind of psychological and dark appeal.
We’re not justifying Kilgrave’s action!
We know that Kilgrave is a rapist!
We don’t support an abusive relationship!
We’re simply exploring this dark and fucked up connection/relationship between two characters!
So, if you’re still having a problem with me or any other Jessigrave shipper, or think you can send abusive messages yourself to those shippers, you can piss off right now because I don’t have to listen to your ridiculous talk,

The cannibal got eaten - #SaveHannibal

(Source: https://www.facebook.com/NBCHannibal?fref=ts)

I was absolutely shocked yesterday afternoon when I read the news. As tolerant as I am with so many things but this time the TV channel NBC made the biggest mistake of their existence.

The highly praised and intelligent TV series Hannibal got cancelled!!!

At first I did not even want to believe it but there it stood. I immediately thought that the guys who are responsible for this must be insane! I do not understand how someone could imagine cancelling such a well made show as Hannibal. Maybe the numbers of viewers dropped after the first episode of the new season but out there in the world are still so many people and Fannibals who do not want to see their favourite TV show killed. The fanbase of Hannibal is big enough and a very devoted and passionate one. Out there are still enough and many men and women to whom Hannibal is the best and most intelligent show on TV that has been there for years! The Fannibals absolutely love their show and I consider myself part of this fandom too and I do not want to see such a brilliant show being dropped like a stone!

Hannibal only just started with its third season and it really deserved another season after such a thrilling second round. The creators and writers of this show have managed it to create so many fascinating and original stories like one has never seen before on TV. This show dares to show the dark side of human behaviour and our own psyche. Hannibal made it possible to create beauty with the help of murders and psychopaths and we just love it! This has never been any ordinary show, it does not stop where so many other crime/thriller shows stop or think they cannot go because this is not "appropriate" or "too abnormal". That is exactly why we love Hannibal! We watch it because of its unusual and unpredictable story lines, plot twists and interesting characters. This show is not just trying to be clever, it IS clever and manages it to hook the audience after the first episode because one never knows what really happened and why and if we can trust our own mind. Hannibal challenges its audience and is not one of those pattern-repeating TV shows to which you can just switch in any episode without knowing anything. No, Hannibal creates intelligent and thrilling stories which keep you on the edge of your seat even tough you have watched every episode and believe you know what is going on. This TV show is far too clever for that.

The actors and their characters are just another honourable factor in the praise for this show. It is undeniable that Mads Mikkelsen and Hugh Dancy are fantastic actors who play their roles (beyond) brilliantly!
The intelligent and cultured cannibal Hannibal Lecter could not be portrayed any better on TV than by Mads Mikkelsen. He gives this role the certain coldness of the murderous cannibal, the calmness of the educated cook and the emotions of the "real" Hannibal. An amazing portray by a skilled actor who is more than capable to keep up the interest in such a famous character.
Hugh Dancy is just the same. He is perfectly able to portray the split personality of Graham who is often balancing between losing his mind and being a very clever agent with special skills. Next to Hannibal the character of Will Graham was not very famous but the show and the brilliant acting of Hugh Dancy gave this interesting character a face and the popularity he deserved. Graham is an equal counterpart to Hannibal and so is Dancy to Mikkelsen. He is equal to him in every way and the chemistry between Graham & Hannibal/Dancy & Mikkelsen is one like you have never seen before. Graham is a man capable of keeping up with Hannibal and Hugh Dancy plays him brilliantly with the right mixture of emotionality, cleverness, reserve and bravery.

So Fannibals, now it is our duty to give a shout out to the TV producers and channels out there so that they help us save our beloved cannibal from getting eaten. Sign this online petition so NBC learns that they made a huge mistake: https://www.change.org/p/nbc-netflix-what-are-you-thinking-renew-hannibal-nbc
Tell me and the other people about your love for Hannibal so that the others see how much this show means to us! Write, draw, make a video or whatever can express the love and the importance of this issue. We will not sit still and watch our favourite show being cannibalised itself, so spread the words: #SaveHannibal !!!

Many Happy Returns - 10th Anniversary of New Doctor Who

It has now been ten years since Doctor Who is back on our televisions and what amazing ten years it have been! Ten years ago, on this very day, Christopher Eccleston took our hand and said "Run!" and we have never stopped running since then.

Doctor Who has been a wonderful show all these years and I mean not just the last ten years, all the past fifty years were absolutely brilliant! After nine years of absence after the movie, Doctor Who made a phenomenal comeback and excited a complete new generation of kids and young adults with its funny stories about the eccentric Doctor. Christopher Eccleston was the perfect Doctor for brining the show back and for introducing people to the universe of Doctor Who who had never heard of it before. In the past ten years Doctor Who became a TV show that has had success round the entire world and became a global thing. Doctor Who has connected people all over the world with its magic of time travel, historical events, aliens and the best character in television history. Doctor Who has taught us so many great lessons of life and always had an open ear for every kind of issue. No one was ever to unimportant or not special enough for the Doctor because he taught us that everybody is important and everybody can do something brilliant.

So, happy birthday Doctor Who. Only a wibbly-wobbly, timey-wimey show like you could celebrate a 10th anniversary after a 50th but then: this just fits perfectly to the show ^_^ I hope you will enchant many of us for another ten years to come 8and hopefully more) and thank you for coming back and being a part of our lives!

A busy life (But still time for Writing, Cosplay, Cumberbatch, Doctor Who, Hannibal and Game of Thrones)

Sorry guys, I haven't really done any proper blogging in the past three months. I'm in my last year of school and the final exams are coming up so I have a lot of studying to do. I guess many fangirls and fanboys among you will understand that problem of not being able to do your fandom stuff because of school.

There are actually no other big things on in my life at the moment. I still try to watch my TV shows and movies and to read my books but very often I never find the time for my hobbies. I actually want to continue writing my fantasy novel but somehow there is also no real process going on. But I have had some really good ideas about certain characters and their motivations and backgrounds so I hope that the spirits of inspiration will move my pen again very soon. If want to know/hear something about my novel don't hesitate to ask. I can also write an extra entry about my book if you like ^_^

For the Cosplay and Criminal Minds fans: I have done a new cosplay based on the wonderful character of Dr Spencer Reid from the team of the BAU. If you want to take a look click on the link and maybe give it a thumps up: https://www.facebook.com/johannaholmescosplay

Some big things happened in our fandoms though. Benedict finally got married and had a ten day honeymoon with his gorgeous wife Sophia Cumberbatch ^_^ They look so happy and cute together on the photos you see of the two and I hope that they are enjoying the married life and always find some time for themselves between their busy schedules. Sadly Benedict didn't win the Oscar for best actor but to be honest at that point: I already expected something like that because I have seen "Theory of Everything". And I'm so glad Eddie Redmayne won the Oscar for his portrait of Stephen Hawking because he absolutely deserved it!!! If you haven't watched "Theory of Everything" already, go an do it right after you have finished reading this blog entry ^_^

The fans of Doctor Who are looing forward to the new series and are excited to see what lies behind the story of the Doctor and the Mistress. I'm kind of excited myself because I was actually quite intrigued in the new version of the Master and hope that we will see some cool scenes between the Doctor and the Mistress. What will happen with Clara, I don't quite know what to say to that. I'm not her biggest fan but she's become better with Peter Capaldi and hope that I maybe grow more attached to her in this new series. If the writers of Doctor Who do a better job this time with scripts, the characters and take more advantage of the potential that still lies in Peter Capaldi's acting abilities (which are, as we all know, absolutely fantastic!), then I'm sure the new series will be a good one.

And the fans of "Hannibal" reading this are also probably looking forward to season 3 and have been just as excited as me when the trailer for the new season came out. I'm looking forward to see what they are going to show and where Hannibal is now going and if he's meeting old acquaintances and visits places of his past. Let us hope for interesting plot lines and some intriguing insights into the psyche of the characters.

But I have still found the time to start watching a new TV show which probably many of you will know and like: I started watching Game of Thrones! Right now I'm in the middle of series 4 and look forward to series 5 which is airing very soon. The show is pretty cool and very interesting. I also appreciate the work of George R.R. Martin because the world he created is simply brilliant and full of fantasy. I love the fact that you always have to expect the unexpected in Game of Thrones whether it hast to do with characters or plot lines. And there are MANY plot lines. After the very first episode there are already about fife different stories going on. I have to admit that I can understand people that don't like that sort of complicated stuff and have difficulty in following certain story lines. You have to have some patience with Game of Thrones but when you give it a chance you will most certainly get an entertaining and well-created TV show.
For the Game of Thrones fans among you, here are some of my opinions/favourites:
- Tyrion Lannister is probably the best character ever!
- Daenerys Targaryen and Jorah Mormont should be a couple
- Brienne of Tarth is such a cool woman!
- I somehow like/support the thing that's going on between Bealish and Sansa
- Arya Stark is my favourite from the House of Stark because she is just badass
- This was the first TV show where I really despised certain characters and cheered when they died (I think we all know who it is)
- I actually support the love of the incest couple in that show (And of course I also love the fact that there also gay and lesbian relationships)
(Source: http://winteriscoming.net/)

Well, that's the blogging done. I don't know when I will have the time again to write something but I always like to say: better late than never. I hope you guys are all well and for the students out there: keep your heads up, we can do it ^_^

Time for a male companion for the Doctor

Up-to-date Whovians already know the (big) news: Clara is going to stay as the Doctor's companion in series 9 of Peter Capaldi's second round as the legendary Time Lord. And this is the reason why I'm writing this entry because for a longer time now I thought about Clara and future companions of the Doctor, and I believe that it is about time that some things should maybe change a bit.

I know that a lot of people are going to say that I'm not open-minded and that I judge too fast too overhastily because I'm one of the people who don't like Clara. I admit that Clara does not stand on my top 3 of Doctor Who companions, but that is not entirely my point. For non-Clara fans the news that she is going to stay is of course kind of devastating, and I understand you very well guys. But I also understand the Whovians who like Clara very much and consider her as one of the best companions. Every Whovian has his/her own favourite companion, we can't always like everyone, and that's normal. I also don't want to concentrate now necessarily on pros and cons for Clara as a companion; there have been far too many discussions about that, and we all know how quickly they can go down an ugly road.

That Clara is going to stay the Doctor's companion for little longer I can't change, and I also won't stop watching Doctor Who just because a companion I don't like stays. To be honest at that point: any Whovian who stops watching because a character stays or the Doctor becomes someone else is to me not a real Whovians and simply being ridiculous, but that is another discussion... No, I'm writing this entry because something else is going around my mind because I think that it is time that the Doctor in the near future (possibly after Clara) gets a complete new type of companion.

The point I'm trying to make is: it is time for a male full time companion in Doctor Who.

We have had Jack and Rory, and (in my mind) they turned out to be pretty cool, but they have either only travelled with the Doctor occasionally or never alone with him. I personally would like to see another man aboard the TARDIS and this time alone, for real and as a full-time companion. Peter Capaldi's Doctor, I think, would be perfect to finally make that step. With him we've got again a more serious Doctor who is not flirty and not into hugging and is not always trying to impress the girl next to him (although he somehow always tries to impress somebody, no matter who it is, so...). I think that Capaldi's Doctor would make the perfect basis for a good, honest and mature friendship between two men who are simply best mates. It would definitely bring a fresh tone to the show and Capaldi's Doctor does seem to me to be very appropriate and a good version of the Time Lord to form a great bromance. He simply does seem and look to me like the right Doctor for this kind of companion because I imagine he would maybe be a bit more comfortable with (finally) only a guy aboard, and I also think that a male companion suits Capaldi's Doctor best of all the new-Who Doctors.

Well, I know that not all Whovians will welcome my opinion, but then it is only human to disagree. We will see what Moffat plans for the future of Capaldi's Doctor, and we can all just hope, with whomever the Doctor will end up with, that he is happy with his choice of companion and that he doesn't feel alone.

Doctor or Doctor Who? - A clarification about the name of the mad man in a blue box

It has always bothered me a bit, but lately it has come very often to my attention, and I now have the desire to speak out my opinion about this...

People in the Doctor Who fandom always go on about the name of the Doctor. No, I don't mean his actual name, which we will probably never hear, but the name of the character himself on the show. With the following picture/statement probably every Whovian is familiar:

I HAVE ENOUGH OF IT!!!! For god's sake people, don't always get angry when people call the character "Doctor Who" and not "the Doctor". To finally make this thing clear: THE DOCTOR'S ORIGINAL NAME WAS "DOCTOR WHO" - Even Christopher Eccleston's version of the Doctor was still called "Doctor Who" in the credits!!!
(Sorry for the bad quality)

Basically, calling this man "Doctor Who" isn't wrong at all, it is more of a tradition thing you could say. I just find it very unfair and simply childish to go on about such a little thing which isn't even a real mistake. So I am addressing every Whovian out there: if someone calls this man "Doctor Who" don't get angry because it is not a mistake but homage to the old days.

Starting school again (twice), a Doctor's appointment and putting my trust into a genie

Ah, well it has been quite a while since I did some proper blogging. What has happened, what is new, what people did I meet, what kind of new TV shows and movies I have recently fallen in love with, 'new' fandoms new people and things to swoon over... Well, I believe you get the idea ^_^

I have been back to school now for a week and to be honest: I'm already now tired of the whole school thing again! I've had six weeks of summer holidays and it doesn't feel like I have been away. Already now I get a headache in class, have problems understanding stuff and fall asleep in the middle of the lesson (no kidding, I really do that!). And it is also my final year at school, my 12th year and then I'm graduating (hopefully) so I get my degree for university. I'm so freaking nervous about my final exams and have no idea if I can cope with the stress, the pressure and the nervousness. The thing with me is that I don't want to finish school because I can't imagine a life after school, going to work, live alone etc. Yeah, university might still be a bit like school but even there everything is a bit different, more complicated and self-organised. And every teacher reminding you of now concentrating on your final exams and your plans for what to do after school doesn't make it much better for us students...
Well, but there has been another 'school' that started again and I was glad to see coming back: the TV show "Big School" is back on screen for a second series about which I am very glad! For the ones who don't know the show: it's about the life of (mainly) the teachers at a small school with bored and not the smartest children. Mostly you follow the life of French teacher Sarah Poston who is played by Catherine Tate (yes, it's Donna ^_^). She tries to make French interesting for the students and has to deal with the odd behaving of her colleagues, especially the flirting attempts of overenthusiastic and (too) nice Chemistry teacher Mister Church and the gruff and (slightly) perverse Physical Education teacher Mister Gunn. The show is definitely worth a watch because it is so lovely made and very funny. Every teacher is well played with his/her own special personality which may some of us remind us of our own teachers. The show isn't very long either (six episodes a 30 minutes in the first series) so you get through with it quickly and get some funny and loveable entertainment for an afternoon.

Of course I got my teeth also into some TV shows in the last time and I believe I have found a/two new fandom(s). I bet some of you know the TV show "Life on Mars" and its sequel "Ashes to Ashes". "Life on Mars" concentrates on the story of policeman Sam Tyler played by John Simm with whom you should be familiar as he played the Master in Doctor Who. This time however he plays the decent cop Sam who is involved in a car accident and when he wakes up he finds himself back in the year 1973. There he is the new DI in the department of DCI Gene Hunt, a tough, smoking, drinking and violent cop like you would imagine the head of a police department in the 70s. Sam meets all sorts of people and has to find his meaning in this new life and needs to work out if he ever can come back into his old life in the year 2006. The sequel that follows Sam's adventures, "Ashes to Ashes" is mainly with the same cast as in "Life on Mars", only that we this time follow the adventures of profiler Alex Drake who gets shot in the year 2008 and after waking up finds herself in the year 1981. She also works under Gene as new DI and tries to find out what has happened to herself.
I can only recommend and tell you to watch these two TV shows because they are a jewel of British television. These aren't just some ordinary crime shows as we are used to see on telly, no! Every case these people work on is different, in 40 episodes you will never get the feeling "Haven't they done something like that before?". The fact that the two shows are set in the 70s and 80s also gives them a special taste. The people who worked on these shows did all they could to make it look as authentic as possible and they really have succeeded with that! Fashion, music, looks, political views, society matters are getting a different kind of view that also let the audience think about the difference between now and then. The best thing, however, is probably the perfect character-writing and performances of all the different police characters. Every character in the police department is different and an individual and has her/his own way of thinking, talking and reacting to situations. And every single actor and actress in these two shows play their parts brilliantly and with so much passion and conviction that you will find yourself fallen in love with them from the very first moment.
Especially (that's now my personal opinion) the though DCI Gene Hunt is the one you will find yourself adoring after a few minutes the most although he's not always the nicest and fairest person in the room. Gene is a hilarious guy who's never afraid of saying what he thinks and punching the criminal scum, he takes off the road, if they are being stupid or don't want to talk. Gene Hunt is played by the awesome actor Philip Glenister who not only has the perfect looks for a guy like Gene but also portrays this cop with so much passion that you will never forget that Philip Glenister is/was the Gene Genie ^_^ I've also seen Glenister in other movies and shows and can also recommend to you everything he has ever done because I personally think that Philip Glenister is one of Britain's finest actors who makes every role you see him in likeable for you. So I found a new fandom and a new brilliant British actor I can be obsessed with. Hurray!

The other big thing that has been going on are the further adventures of the new Doctor number 12! I can't say that much about it because there is actually just one thing I would like to make clear: I bloody love the 12th Doctor!!! He is funny and serious and is somehow a mixture of Doctor number 9 (and some of the classic Doctors) who was a bit more serious but still sassy and the childish Doctor number 11. In all three episodes I think the new Doctor has been brilliant, he gets better with every new adventure and I personally have to say that 12 already now probably belongs to my favourite Doctors ^_^

Okay, that is my blogging done. Just some little advice at the end: go and watch the movie "Fright Night", it's awesome! That is how a good and decent vampire-horror movie should be! The original from 1985 is really good and the remake from 2011 is bloody awesome and has David Tennant and Colin Farrell in it. That's my little advice for your next movie night so go and have a look and don't forget "Life on Mars" and "Ashes to Ashes". They are all worth a watch, believe me. Trust the Gene Genie ^_^

P.S.: Today is Martin Freeman's birthday by the way! Our cute Hobbit and loyal army-doctor turns 43 today. Happy Birthday, Martin ^_^
